General Powered Industrial Truck (PIT) Training

PIT Forklift Training

This self-paced, online course delivers the formal (classroom/lecture) component of forklift operator training required by OSHA’s Powered Industrial Truck(PIT) Standard (29 CFR 1910.178). Training shall consist of a combination of formal instruction(e.g., lecture, discussions, interactive computer learning, video tape, written material), practical training (demonstrations performed by the trainer and practical exercises performed by the trainee), and evaluation of the operator's performance in the workplace. (29 CFR 1910.178(l)(2)(ii).

Through clear explanations and engaging visuals, participants learn the principles of safe forklift operation—before they ever step onto the equipment, this training completes the formal training requirement and sets up a foundation for success for the rest of the workplace specific PIT Training program(practical training and evaluation). If your company does not already have a combination training program, this training reviews all topics needed to be evaluted during the practical and evaluative parts of the training program.

All PIT operators are required to complete a workplace specific training program and be certified by their organization at least once every three years. Refresher training is needed whenever an operator demonstrates a deficiency in safe operation of the truck and this training can fulfill part of the re-training requirement also. Hands-on practice and the on-site performance evaluation must be completed by the employer to achieve full operator qualification or refresher training, based on the requirements in OSHA.
